Common objections to Keyholding
Over the years we have heard many reasons why people object to outsourcing their Alarm Response and Keyholding requirements. Most eventually come back to us once they have an incident. A list of the most common reasons people think that they dont need keyholding are below;
'I respond to the Alarm myself'
With lone worker legislation it should effectively be a two person job so do you take somebody along with you? You should at the very least be calling a colleague to wake them up to inform them that you are attending site and then call them again when you leave site safely. Do you do this? Really?
Are you available 24/7? Isn’t it a massive inconvenience for you to be woken up at 3am and have to get dressed and go to work in the pitch black on a cold wet night not knowing what you’re going to be walking into?
If it’s a week night, you’ve then got the next day to contend with where you may not be functioning at 100% because you’ve not had a good nights sleep. If it’s the weekend, it can be just as bad, disturbing your friends and family time and if you’ve had a drink you may not even be able to legally drive to work?
'We have a member of staff who lives round the corner'
Do you feel comfortable putting them at risk? It may be a false alarm but there may be intruders on site. How would you feel if something happened to them? Worst case scenario, due to changes in 2007, line managers as well as directors are affected by corporate manslaughter legislation if the worst was to happen to your staff member. Were you aware of this?
'Big Dave does it, he can handle himself'
I’m sure that he can, but can he take on 3 or 4 people? The issue that you will have is that even if he comes out on top, the inturuders may press charges and it will be “Big Dave” who ends up on the wrong side of bars. The flipside is that “Big Dave” is outnumbered and outfought and ends up on the wrong side of a beating.
'Its too expensive and we don’t have the budget'
How much do you think this service costs? What are you prepared to pay to ensure the safety of yourself/staff members. For less than £1 per day we can give you peace of mind.
'We don’t need it'
Simply why not? Inconvenience and risk are both removed by employing Keynet Response to take care of your Alarm Response and Keyholding.
'Our alarm isn’t monitored'
We can arrange for that to change and that will also probably be at a cost less than you think? It should really be monitored otherwise your alarm could be going off all night/weekend and nobody will know about it until you get to work in the morning.
'We have police response' (Redcare/Dualcom)
That’s a good service to have in place but are you aware that the police response isn’t guaranteed whereas ours is? If they’re busy dealing with other things responding to your alarm isn’t their priority. It is our priority and we will always respond. If you have a couple of false alarms you can get struck off and the service is revoked. The police also dont hold your keys so can't access your property to unset your alarm.
'There’s nothing worth stealing'
Why do you have a monitored alarm then? What would the real cost be to your company in the event of vandalism or fire? If your site isn’t fit for business the following day and nobody could work, what financial impact would this have for your company?
'We never have any activations'
What would happen if you did? Do you have a plan in place?
'I don’t trust another company to hold a set of keys'
We hold keys in line with British Standard BS7984. The officer who responds will have a valid SIA badge and has also been vetted to British Standards including a 5 year employment check, CRB check, and credit check.
We don’t necessarily have to hold a set of keys, we can be on call as an escort service to meet you at the premises to eliminate risk and ensure your safety, or access keys securely held in an approved keysafe at your property.
'I can get it cheaper elsewhere'
Is it really about cost when it comes to handing over the keys to your company? You need a company that you can trust that are holding your keys in line with British Standards. We’ve got over 15 years experience of holding keys for our customers and have held keys for banks and other blue chip worldwide brands.
'I already have the service and I’m tied into a contract'
We will accept you as a Keynet customer immediately and not invoice you until your keyholding renewal is due.
